A load-change transient occurs when coming out of or entering a low power mode. For some CPUs this load-change transient can be on the order of 13A and this can severely damage the processor.

Solution: PolySwitch devices.

A PolySwitch device can be placed on the input pins to the VRMs that supply power to the processors to help protect the processors. PolySwitch devices limit the flow of dangerously high currents during fault conditions and reset back to normal operating mode once the fault condition is removed.
